Every day, we have great power through the use of our words. We can speak life to our circumstances or we can speak what we see and feel into the atmosphere. Our words can brighten our day or remind us of the gloom or difficulty in our lives.
Although much easier said than done, here are some tips that can help you fuel your words to the direction you desire.
- Read your Bible
The Word of God is full of amazing words or wisdom when it comes to the power of words, our thoughts, and our feelings. If youâre struggling in this area, I encourage you to read with the clear intention and direction. Make it a point to find all of the scriptures involving our words and study those scriptures. If initial studying is slightly difficult with you, check out our articles called Using SOAP with God.
- Review Yearly Goals
Writing goals help us to stay focused on the things that matter when our feelings of motivation as left us. Reading and reviewing our goals help us to keep in mind the bigger picture when the journey becomes tougher than we expected. When we remind ourselves of our WHY, we encourage ourselves through the HOW.
- Listen to motivational videos and podcasts
Though technology, we can chose to be reactive to the information we receive or be intentionally proactive with the type of content we let into our lives. Through Facebook, our timelines are full of things and people we CHOOSE to follow and connect ourselves with. Want more positivity? Simply add more positive things and people to your friends list and pages, while hiding the negativity. Simply click the hide button over status updates or go to the personâs page and click unfollow updates. This leaves the friendship or connection intact without the interference of your desired timeline environment. YouTube âMotivational videosâ and the âPower of Your Word,â and prepare to fill up with great content.
We all get off course with our words, and thatâs okay! Itâs up to recognize when we get off course and be intentional about getting back on track. Use your words to fuel your success, love life, and future. Your words contain power so be very intentional about the power youâve been given.

We live in a high-tech digital world that is only going to get more digital with the coming generations. We can order our groceries online and have them delivered at our house, we can text people instead of picking the phone up to call them, and we can even deposit checks into our bank accounts with our phones thanks to technology. If we wanted to, we could avoid human contact all together. We are the generation of likes, apps, retweeting, connecting, friends and emoji’s. While there’s an abundance of screen to screen interaction, face to face interaction is dwindling and with it depression, anxiety, and discontentment are on the rise (everydayhealth.com)
So is this screen to screen interaction really connecting? How do we move with the times but keep the simple act of communicating and really connecting with each other alive? People need people. When we start replacing real conversations and language with text messages and emoji’s we’re creating gaps for the enemy to come in and attack individuals. We need to remember that no amount of connecting online can take the place of actually connecting and getting together with people to be present with them and be a shoulder to lean on or to share a laugh with is crucial.
With our gadgets it’s easy to hide. It’s easy to appear one way but actually be the complete opposite. It’s easy to mask real issues that need to be dealt with. So how do we get back to basics here? Here’s some tips on how to start connecting with the people you love and strangers 90’s style.
- CALL YOUR FRIENDS
Yes, we mean actually pick up the phone and check in on your friends! Once a week make an actual phone call in which you are interacting with someone without texting or through a social media outlet.
- LEAVE YOUR PHONE IN THE CAR
If you are going out to lunch or a movie with a friend or your boyfriend, LEAVE THE PHONE. It’s okay. You don’t have to capture every moment. Be present. Give whoever you are with your full, undivided attention. They deserve it and might even need it.
- Dare I say, GET RID OF SOCIAL MEDIA
Okay, you don’t have to get rid of all the outlets, but maybe try giving up or deleting the app on your phone for a day or two. Watch how this will free up your time and challenge you to connect in different ways. The world will keep spinning if you aren’t tweeting, trust me.
- WRITE A LETTER
Yes. Go get some paper and a pen and write a letter to a friend! This is a good way to brighten someone’s day and an excuse to go to the post office and interact with humans.
With love and big smiles,

Dear 20 something soul,
Something #5
LAY IT DOWN AT THE FEET OF JESUS
Okay, so despite me telling you to not worry about what others are doing, worrying is unfornately a BIG part of our twenties. If itâs not worrying about one thing, itâs worrying about something else. Our twenties are filled with questions that stress and worry us to the core, for example but not limited to:
- Will I get the job?
- What preschool are we going to send the kids to?
- My car broke down and I have no money to fix it, what am I going to do?
- Do I want to go back to college?
- Whatâs my passion?
- How do I get out of all this debt?
- Will I ever be able to buy a home?
- Do I have cute clothes for the fall?
- Am I parenting right?
- When will I find my husband?
Ladies, Iâm sure you can relate to one or more of those worries. But guess what, not one of us can add on a day to our life by worrying ourselves. I want you to meditate on Matthew 6:25-33. I love the way to Message paraphrase puts it:
âIf you decide for God, living a life of God-worship, it follows that you donât fuss about whatâs on the table at mealtimes or whether the clothes in your closet are in fashion. There is far more to your life than the food you put in your stomach, more to your outer appearance than the clothes you hang on your body. Look at the birds, free and unfettered, not tied down to a job description, careless in the care of God. And you count far more to him than birds.â
âHas anyone by fussing in front of the mirror ever gotten taller by so much as an inch? All this time and money wasted on fashionâdo you think it makes that much difference? Instead of looking at the fashions, walk out into the fields and look at the wildflowers. They never primp or shop, but have you ever seen color and design quite like it? The ten best-dressed men and women in the country look shabby alongside them.â
âIf God gives such attention to the appearance of wildflowersâmost of which are never even seenâdonât you think heâll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you? What Iâm trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to Godâs giving. People who donât know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, and God-provisions. Donât worry about missing out. Youâll find all your everyday human concerns will be met.â
Trust that word sisters. Meditate on it and let it live inside of you until you truly learn to not worry about a thing!!
Till next time,
20 Something Soul
